Pads, soap, shoes, a change of clothes

Shoes, clothing & hygiene

We distribute clothing and reusable sanitary pads to girls in the community and to women in prison.

A girl who misses school every month because she has no pads is not lazy. She is failed. We distribute reusable sanitary pads on a monthly rhythm to little girls, to ladies in the community, and to women in prison. Shoes, clothing and soap go out with the same quiet regularity as food — because dignity is washed, worn, and walked in. On shoe day at Mercy School the girls hold up new black pairs on the porch. A child who walked in barefoot leaves with something that will still be on her feet in July.

This is shoes, clothing & hygiene as it looks this week.

Black shoes, a whole class

Girls in uniform hold up new black school shoes on the Mercy School tiles. A child who walks to class barefoot is not lazy. She is waiting for a pair. This is that morning.

Bags, books, a box of shoes

The porch before the handing-over: backpacks, exercise books, satchels, a carton of black school shoes. Dignity is packed, then given a name.
